Witnessing and being able to capture someone’s family is a privilege.

Whether these are your first photos as a family with a fresh newborn, a chance to freeze your growing family (teenager alert), or make the most of grandparents (maybe visiting from overseas or just getting older) – there is never a bad time to take family photos. Every age and stage is worthy of documenting.

Having your photo taken (especially by a stranger) usually feels unnatural. Let’s be honest. I realise and appreciate this and take a very easy-going approach to family sessions. The best, authentic shots are rarely taken in the first five minutes. We usually spend that time chatting, playing or exploring depending on who is in the family. I lovely slowly opening your little ones up (and older ones!). Then it’s just about capturing your family as you are! The little chuckles, affectionate eye-contact, tender cuddles, playful grins. As well as capturing some timeless photos you’ll cherish forever – I love for these outings to be fun family time. Sessions are usually out in nature, full of lots to enjoy and explore. I’ll give you little prompts and encouragement along the way to know where to go and what to ‘do’ but most of the time you’re just having fun with each other.

Outside of photoshoots I choose to spend a lot of my time with kids and families. Having volunteered with various youth groups, working in school environments and raising two kids of my own – I just really enjoy the nature and dynamics of family. I also have my Working with Children Check.

I love working with the any different personalities, needs, and insecurities in your group. We chat beforehand so I’ve got a good sense of who you are as a family and any key things to be aware of. Every family is worthy of photos – no kid is ‘too hard’. Things may (very likely) not go ‘to plan’ at some point – we’ll roll with it! That’s the beautiful chaos of family.
